A Catholic monk, Professor Martin Luther (1483-1546) in Germany found himself struggling with the practices of the Church.
He found peace in God when he realized that each person is justified by faith; that is, accepted by God because of a person’s own faith.
In short, we are saved by sola gratia per fidem (by grace alone through faith). Luther emphasized a personal relationship with God. That includes daily prayers, repentance, and a request for forgiveness of sins for Jesus’ sake.
The Father’s task is to teach his children to recite the Lord’s Prayer, Apostles’ Creed and Ten Commandments. Each person needs to study the Bible in the language of her preference, and to obey Scripture that as the unaltered word of God is the sole norm and authority in our lives.
